Sharp ultra-definition: Even higher definition

Are you one of those people who's never happy? If so, Sharp has the high-definition TV for you.
It's only at the prototype phase at the moment, but it's a 64-inch screen with a resolution of about 4,000x2,000 pixels, which basically gives it a resolution of 8.8 megapixels.
We feel it's important to point out that a 1080p television has a resolution of just 2 megapixels, so it's fair to say this kicks HD up the bottom and then makes an insulting comment about its mother.
As you can probably tell, we were incredibly impressed by the quality of the picture on this television. It's hard to describe how much detail there was and while 1080p is far from shabby, this screen really does prove there's a lot of scope for increasing the resolution of video.
Sharp hasn't decided when or whether to commercialise it yet, but we can only hope it will be available in time to see the next high-definition disc format war rise out of the ashes of the Blu-ray vs HD DVD scuffle. -IM
