"So is anyone else concerned that the M2TS lack of bitstreaming support is a license issue with DTS/Dolby, and not a technical one?

We've heard from Arcsoft and Cyberlink that the reason they downrez all HD audio to 16/48 in non-AACS files (like ripped M2TS) is due to their agreement with DTS and Dolby.

I raised this concern a while ago, and got shunned, but it sure seems to be the case here.

Syabas needed to get a *real* license to support full BD playback, something they didn't need before. Now they are constrained by the same license restrictions as Arcsoft, Cyberlink, and others.

Worse yet, I sure hope this doesn't get retro-fitted into the A110.

This C200 is a mess on so many fronts..."

"daniel_owen_uk Wrote: They could do it with the A100 that didn't even have a DTS-Licence, it almost doesn't even need to know that it's a DTS file, it just passes it unaltered to the receiver, that's the whole idea of bitstream.

It's a technical issue.

You're making my point - without a license, they (Syabas) could do whatever they want.

Now that they have a very restrictive license in order to play full BDs, they are under the same license as Arcsoft and Cyberlink. That license says that the software players can not bitstream lossless DTS or Dolby HD audio from sources that are not AACS protected.

This was a non-issue pre-C200, since they weren't under the restrictive license agreement. However in order to play in the BD game, and keep their "key" valid, they need to abide by the license agreements or risk losing their key (and losing the ability to play BDs). They now have something out of their control that can remove a function of their product if they violate the license agreement.

They're bitstreaming from AACS protected content just fine on this chip. It's a stretch to say it's a chip issue.

I guess we'll have to see what happens. This latest firmware still doesn't have this corrected, which is very telling."

Gość prawi całkiem sensownie...
A czy poprawnie kombinuje, to się okaże...

A nie tak dawno HiJack podobno bąknął coś o braku dźwięku HD w C-200. Może o to mu chodziło? Ktoś pamięta szczegóły?
